I thought maybe drivers for the Touchpad so reinstalled etc no go.
Now heres the kicker, on the first laptop (Toshiba with Windows XP) I used it on I was actually doing a reinstallation of Windows XP for a friend so I went ahead with a clean install and the problem persisted after I WIPED the internal HDD and reinstalled Windows!!! When I unplug the HDD (safely remove hardware etc.) it continues to happen, EVEN after reboot. Now, this has happened on XP and Vista Ultimate.
The mouse will continue to work but it pauses and jumps all over the place. I bought an external USB HDD enclosure the other day and for some reason when I plug it into most laptops (3 out of 4 so far), it makes the touchpad mouse malfunction. I wouldn't buy anything else today.Wonder if anyone has any ideas about this little dilemma I am having. In my experience, you can't beat Lenovo support. They initially said they wouldn't help me with software issues (my support plan was for hardware only) but the rep did take a moment to talk with me and we resolved the issue with that phone call.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and had a minor driver issue which I decided to talk with a support rep about before I did something on my own. Not to mention the fact that they are reliable as hell and are built to withstand being worked on all day and all night without overheating or wearing out over time. There doesn't appear to be a better keyboard experience out there. In my personal opinion they are top shelf. I've had several laptops (IBM T-Series before they switched to Lenovo, Toshiba Satellite Pro series, Toshiba Satellite lower end, and have dealt with other makes with my clients) but this time around I went back to the Lenovo T-series and couldn't be happier. Thanks Scott!!! That mouse issue has been annoying me for months now (I'm using a Microsoft Sculpt Touch mouse with my Lenovo T530) and I've just been living with the issue rather than taking the time to troubleshoot - I had actually thought it was possibly a Bluetooth issue of some sort and didn't bother trying to troubleshoot as I've always seemed to have bigger fish to fry.īy the way, I absolutely love the Lenovo T530.

I'm starting to realize that most all of my frustrations with touchpads and mice on Windows are related to poor defaults and settings in the 3rd party drivers, and now I check those first when I have issues. If you have the Lenovo or Synaptics drivers, select the UltraNav tab. Hit the Windows button and from the Start Screen type "mouse." You want this one, not the "metro" or fullscreen mouse settings. I turned it down two notches and my mouse freezing problem was solved.
Turned out during a recent driver upgrade it was set to Maximum. I figured it was the Palm Check feature of the laptop's touchpad, meant to disable mice whilst typing fast. Something was disabling the mouse as I was moving around.
However, I sat down and thought about the problem and noticed that if I moved the TouchPad on my laptop after the external mouse appeared frozen my external mouse would be responsive again. I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 so my first reaction was to assume that something broke because "stuff is new." I'd be moving it, then the mouse would just stop. I recently noticed that my external Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse would freeze every few minutes. I'm just blogging this to make sure I remember it, but also to help others who might need this fix.
